Regional Trade Compliance Director (Americas)

This is an exciting opportunity to join a global energy company, HQ'd in Houston, to take responsibility of the trade compliance programme across the Americas, with a strong focus on the US. This position will report to the Global Head of Trade Compliance. 


Global Trade Compliance Program Development

  • Crafting and overseeing the implementation of our client's global trade compliance framework in alignment with industry-leading standards.
  • Formulating policies, manuals, procedures, and advisory materials for international trade compliance.
  • Advancing our client's trade compliance infrastructure within SAP (GTS) platform.
Risk Evaluation

  • Proactively identifying potential trade compliance risks via regular assessments and devising strategies to mitigate or eliminate these risks.
  • Continuous monitoring and evaluation of customs, export, and sanctions regulatory landscape.
Consultative Support

  • Offering strategic counsel on trade compliance matters (sanctions, export controls, customs) pertaining to new market entry and M&A endeavors.
  • Reviewing escalated cases of sanctions screening for counterparties.
Monitoring & Inspection

  • Establishing and executing a comprehensive framework for monitoring the efficacy of international trade compliance measures.
  • Assisting Internal Audit teams in auditing trade compliance controls.
Training & Guidance

  • Providing comprehensive training on international trade compliance to relevant teams such as logistics, sales, and procurement.
  • Mentoring the trade compliance unit within the Integrated Business Operations function of our client.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Proficient understanding of trade laws and regulations.
  • Over a decade of experience in international trade compliance within a multinational corporation or advisory capacity at a consulting firm.
  • Extensive expertise in detailed product classification for exports or imports.
  • Proficiency in various software tools including MS Word, Sharepoint, Excel, Access, Visio, and project management software.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with experience in managing remote teams.
  • Exceptional organisational skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Ability to work autonomously, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Proven track record of delivering high-quality work in dynamic environments while maintaining confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification as a customs and/or export controls specialist (e.g., IIEI, NCBFAA).
  • Knowledge of anti-bribery, anti-corruption, anti-money laundering, and terrorist financing regulations.
  • Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP) designation.
