Director, Human Rights and Diversity

Leonid Group is eccited to represnet exclsuivley, a major retail leader in their search for a Director of Human Rights. This role, brand new in the organisation, is tasked with working closlely with mutiple stakeholders globally to ensure compliance and leadeship in teh area of human rights. 

The Director of Human Rights and Diversity will be responsible for developing and implementing stakeholder engagement strategy, including partnerships with multilateral institutions, NGOs, trade unions, suppliers, and others on an ongoing basis. You’ll work with key internal and external stakeholders to investigate and remediate human rights or labor-related issues within the business’ supply chain.

This role will require deep partnership with internal stakeholders, particularly the Supply Chain Sustainability team, who are at present - responsible for implementing human rights and labor programs. Taking this responsibility off this team – you’ll also help engage the business’ Global Supply Chain organization, as well as the portfolio of brands, to help ensure there is alignment across the human rights and commercial strategies.

Key responsibilities include supporting the development of global strategy on human rights, labor rights, and women’s empowerment, including program design, operating model creation, and monitoring implementation.

The Role

  • Work alongside the Global Sustainability Leadership Team on building and implementing both proactive and reactive partnerships with strategic labor, human rights, and gender stakeholders.
  • Support business issue response process – in partnership with Legal, Global Supply Chain, Corporate Affairs
  • Work with Suply Chain Sustainability team to ensure that programs, practices, and partnerships continue to deliver value for workers, suppliers and stakeholders.
  • Project manage implementation of capability building programs globally, including regularly reviewing the efficacy and impact of existing programs, assessing how programs strategically and operationally fit together, and helping lead the process to evolve and update existing programs and implementation methods based on learnings, insights, and impact evaluation results.
  • Lead benchmarking of programs against other industry approaches and build industry-leading collaborations.
  • Develop risk-matrices and recommendation sets for key issues, such as evaluating countries for sourcing suitability based on social, labor, human rights, and gender dimensions.
  • Develop internal and external sustainability governance and reporting; work collaboratively across brands and functions to track and monitor progress, drive program awareness, and communicate results.
The Candidate

  • 8+ years of labor rights or human rights, gender equity, or commensurate experience working in either public and private organizations.
  • Significant experience designing, building, and deploying human rights and labor programs, with associated operating and implementation models, as well as business models and governance frameworks to support them.
  • Experience navigating complex engagements with a broad set of human rights and labor stakeholders, preferably with experience in the context of global supply chains
  • Expert communicator and coalition-builder, with a passion for finding partnership opportunities with stakeholders that maintain divergent points of view.
  • Able to work independently and in ambiguity, while delivering clarity and focus for business partners.
