About the company & role
A multinational software company is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join its legal team on a one year fixed-term contract to support the integration of a number of acquisitions. This role will provide commercially focused legal advice across a broad range of matters, with a particular emphasis on commercial contracts, software and SaaS operations, regulatory compliance, and acquisition integration.
With some support from the legal lead of the division, this role will work independently and closely with senior stakeholders across the business. You will draft, review and negotiate a variety of agreements including software licence agreements, SaaS and cloud subscription contracts, reseller and partner agreements, professional services agreements, data processing agreements and general terms and conditions. Alongside the day-to-day legal support of the business, you will play a key role in the integration of newly acquired businesses, helping to align contracts, policies and legal processes across multiple jurisdictions.
Operating within a highly international environment, this position will primarily support the acquired German businesses as well as additional business across multiple European and other international jurisdictions. The role can be employed in several European locations and undertaken on a fully remote basis.
What’s on offer?
This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded technology lawyer seeking a broad international role within a growing software business. The position combines day-to-day commercial legal work with strategic project involvement, providing exposure to acquisition integration, corporate matters and cross-border legal operations across a diverse portfolio of jurisdictions.
You will join a collaborative and supportive legal team with the opportunity to influence legal processes, work closely with senior business stakeholders and contribute to the continued growth of an acquisitive, international organisation. The role offers a varied workload and a competitive compensation package aligned to experience and location.
For guidance purposes only and dependent on experience and location, the provisional budget has been set around €115,000 – €130,000 base salary + bonus.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will be a qualified lawyer likely with at least five years' post-qualification experience, gained across either private practice or an in-house legal function or both. You will have strong experience advising on commercial contracts within the technology sector, particularly in the German market and a solid understanding of software licensing models, SaaS products and the wider regulatory landscape affecting software businesses.
Fluency in both English and German is essential. You do not need to be a fully qualified Rechtsanwalt(in) but must be comfortable drafting, reviewing and negotiating German contracts. Additional European language skills are highly beneficial but not essential.
Experience supporting post-acquisition integration projects would be highly advantageous, as would exposure to data protection and intellectual property matters within a software environment.
