Job Purpose
Leonid Group has been retained to hire a Customs and Compliance Manager based in Belgium.
The Customs and Compliance Manager is responsible for overseeing and safeguarding customs and excise compliance across the Belgian entities of the organization.
The role supports the Belgium CEO / Country Director, Operations Manager, and Commercial Manager by ensuring full compliance with applicable customs and tax regulations, while proactively identifying and mitigating operational and regulatory risks.
This position requires a strong understanding of operational processes combined with in-depth knowledge of Belgian and European customs legislation. The role also involves monitoring regulatory developments and translating legal changes into practical, business-oriented solutions.
The Customs and Compliance Manager serves as a key point of contact for government authorities and industry federations.
Main Responsibilities

Manage customs-related claims and potential litigation matters

Proactively identify and address operational and legal risks impacting service delivery

Provide compliance support and advisory services to clients

Oversee customs compliance activities across entities through self-audits and quality controls

Maintain close collaboration with entity managers and team leaders to remain informed and engaged in operational developments

Support and coordinate audits conducted by customs authorities and provide recommendations to management

Monitor and manage customs authorizations and financial guarantees across the organization

Design and implement internal controls to mitigate compliance risks

Implement group policies and procedures related to customs and compliance

Provide periodic reporting to the International Customs & Compliance Director

Develop and maintain internal compliance procedures and governance frameworks

Support the commercial team in assessing and mitigating risks related to contracts and legal documentation

Represent the company in government and sector federation meetings, contributing to discussions and regulatory developments

Lead and manage a team of two Compliance Officers
Skills and Experience

Minimum 5 years of experience in customs compliance

Experience within an international logistics or supply chain organization

Relevant academic background complemented by practical training

Fluency in Dutch and English

Strong affinity with IT systems and digital tools

Good understanding of government customs systems

Knowledge of Streamsoftware is an advantage

Legal background is a plus
