Import Compliance Specialist

  • Competitive
  • Remote, United States

Leonid has been retained by one of our most valued and long-standing partners in the aerospace sector. It's always a pleasure to collaborate with them again—an industry leader with an exceptional reputation for quality, compliance, and innovation.

They’re currently seeking an experienced Customs regulatory compliance professional who thrives in dynamic, fast-moving environments.

If you're someone who enjoys problem-solving, understands regulatory frameworks inside and out, and is constantly looking to refine and improve processes—this could be a great fit.

Your Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Overseeing the movement of goods into the U.S. and abroad, ensuring all import/export activity complies with domestic and international customs laws.
  • Reviewing and confirming accurate product classification (HTSUS) across entries.
  • Leading internal audits focused on import accuracy—covering valuation, country of origin, classification—and submitting post-entry corrections when needed.
  • Managing drawback claims, if applicable.
  • Keeping the parts master data up to date with the correct customs codes and supporting internal and external stakeholders with classification inquiries.
  • Monitoring tariff updates and trade policy changes that impact inbound shipments.
  • Collaborating with U.S. Customs brokers to ensure smooth and timely clearance of shipments.
  • Reconciling customs statements (CBP, CARM) related to duties and taxes, and ensuring the finance team receives accurate, timely data.
  • Contributing to compliance education across the business—developing training, sharing best practices, and supporting onboarding for relevant teams.
  • Conducting in-depth research on Customs rulings and submitting binding ruling requests when appropriate.
  • Assessing eligibility for Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), preparing required documentation and certifications.
  • Determining if additional Participating Government Agency (PGA) clearances are necessary for any imports.
  • Working alongside the wider compliance team to strengthen internal customs processes and ensure end-to-end adherence to global trade policies.
  • Continuously refining internal SOPs and developing new control mechanisms to mitigate risk and ensure operational alignment.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Extensive knowledge of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTSUS) and proven experience with accurate classification.
  • Familiarity with bonded warehouse requirements, in-bond processes, and related compliance obligations.
  • Strong communication abilities, both written and verbal.
  • A relevant academic background (Bachelor's degree in International Trade or a related field) or equivalent on-the-ground experience.

Bonus Points For:

  • A track record of building or auditing robust trade compliance programs.
  • 5+ years working in a customs brokerage or similar function.
  • 5+ years of deep understanding of international shipping, logistics, and regulatory compliance.

Location:

  • Remote position based in the U.S., ideally with availability to work Pacific Time Zone hours.

Due to U.S. export control regulations (ITAR/EAR), U.S. citizenship is required to access and handle controlled technical data and participate in compliance-related activities.
