Leonid Group has been retained by a leading international aerospace and defense technology company to appoint a Senior Buyer - Strategic Procurement to join its US operations in Bedford, NH.
The organization supports critical defense and space missions through advanced engineering, manufacturing, and technology solutions.
This role sits within a specialized business unit focused on high-performance electro-mechanical and electronic systems used in demanding operational environments. The team operates in a fast-paced, highly dynamic setting with strong visibility across the broader organization.
This is a growth-oriented position, offering a clear pathway into leadership. The successful candidate will act as a key deputy to the procurement lead, with the potential to step into broader team management responsibilities over time.
The Role
The Senior Buyer will lead strategic procurement activities across both new product introduction (NPI) and ongoing production. This individual will manage complex supplier portfolios, drive sourcing strategies, and play a critical role in integrating supply chain decisions with manufacturing and engineering operations.
The position requires a hands-on, proactive approach and someone comfortable operating in an environment where priorities evolve quickly.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead strategic sourcing and procurement across multiple commodities, supporting both development and production programs
- Manage a complex supplier portfolio, ensuring alignment with operational and business objectives
- Develop and execute global sourcing strategies, including engagement with international suppliers (notably in Europe)
- Drive supplier negotiations, contract management, and cost optimization initiatives
- Build strong supplier relationships to ensure continuity, quality, and performance
- Partner closely with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to support product development and production flow
- Analyze material requirements (MRP) and align procurement with manufacturing schedules
- Implement risk mitigation strategies to protect supply continuity
- Monitor market trends and pricing to inform sourcing decisions
- Lead process improvement initiatives and mentor junior team members
- Utilize ERP systems (e.g., SAP) for procurement planning and execution
Candidate Profile
- 10+ years of progressive procurement experience, including ownership of complex, high-value portfolios
- Strong understanding of manufacturing environments and how supply chain integrates with production and engineering
- Experience operating in highly dynamic, fast-changing environments with a hands-on approach
- Proven track record in supplier negotiations, including international exposure
- Familiarity with regulated procurement environments (e.g., government contracting frameworks such as FAR/DFARS) is advantageous
- Industry background in aerospace, defense, electronics, or advanced manufacturing preferred
- Candidates should be aligned with technically complex product environments (rather than unrelated sectors such as FMCG/food)
- Experience working with or supporting defense-related programs (directly or as a subcontractor) is a plus
- Strong commercial acumen and ability to balance cost, risk, and performance
Leadership & Growth Potential
- Positioned as a second-in-command within the local procurement team
- Opportunity to step into team leadership, overseeing a team
- Ideal for a high-potential, ambitious individual who is eager to grow into a management role
- Requires a self-starter mindset. Someone who can quickly build trust and operate with autonomy
- The role demands someone proactive, confident, and willing to take initiative (not a “steady-state” or maintenance profile)
Additional Considerations
- Must be comfortable working onsite in a highly collaborative environment
- Willingness to travel internationally (including Europe) as needed
- Strong interpersonal presence seeking an engaging, driven, and leadership-oriented personality
- Exposure to European business culture or language skills is a plus
Why This Role
- Clear path to leadership and team management
- High-impact role with strong cross-functional visibility
- Fast-paced, mission-driven environment
